More on our distinguished speaker:

Redford’s 17th District Court has a new judge. Krista Haroutunian was recently appointed to the bench by Gov. Rick Snyder.

She replaces Judge Charlotte Wirth, who resigned from the court earlier this year. Haroutunian, a Redford resident, most recently served in the Michigan attorney general’s office.

“Krista has demonstrated a solid knowledge of the law and an ongoing commitment to the legal profession,” Snyder said in a statement. “These qualities will make her an excellent district court judge.”

Haroutunian will complete the remainder of Wirth’s term, which expires at the end of 2020. Wirth had served the court since 1999. She practiced law in Redford for about 20 years prior to becoming a judge, according to her district court biography.

As for Haroutunian, she worked as a special assistant attorney general. She oversaw contested guardianship and conservatorship petitions for the Department of Health and Human Services.

Haroutunian’s career started after earning a law degree from Michigan State University in 1998. She focused on probate, estate planning, family law, and real estate matters in private practice.

Besides being a member of various bar associations, Haroutunian sits on the board of the Armenian Relief Society. She has also been a member of the Michigan Women’s Commission since 2011.
